I'm a bit scared I'll have a hard time keeping up... I'll probably have to read the book four times to make sure I retain it all as I haven't been a student for 13 years, have a day job, and two young kids haha!

My husband and I have 3 acres and are planning to use it as the project so I can't wait to get going! We have a couple of permaculture projects going already but I'm sure the knowledge we will get from this course will change all of our ideas.

Im so glad this thread is up, I'm sure we will all be on here like crazy!! I look forward to working with everyone in the up coming weeks!
Thank you all for the relpies... Right now we have a huge arena and seperate corrals for them. We have been using their manure in the garden areas and letting the chickens spread it around. It is just a lot of poo hauling, which is fine, but we are thinking of ways to section off pasture areas to rotate them first, then maybe the goats (but it sounds like they suck for grazing), finishing off with the chickens. I wanted to use the horses in Lou of a cow so it seems that I can as long as I'm careful that they don't over graze....?

We have a lot of mature trees that have great grass and soil established around them so I've letting the horses trim it down so I can try planting various things around them and see what takes off.

Thanks again, everyone!

Where we live we aren't allowed to have cows... We have two horses, goats, and chickens. I want to do pasture rotation but don't know if horses can "replace" the cow's job. Does anyone have advice or insight to this?

I'm pretty sure I'll take 6 years to get another 4 haha!

I totally enjoyed it, I was being playful. This thread took off like a wild fire in a completely different direction... In my humble opinion 😜

It is definitely open to "the other side" to share their feelings. Sexism is okay and fair to bring up in any group if it is an issue. My main point was that if women were mad that there weren't more women presenting at the conference therefore protesting by not going, they are only hurting the potential that another strong women in permaculture may learn something or be inspiried at that conference. If sexism is an issue, then break that barrier and make it better. As Jocelyn said, there were no females that were told they couldn't present that were of the same skill level as the ones that were picked. I think paul was saying that it generally takes a strong personality to be a trail blazer, and so far it has generally been men in this particular field. He wanted to empower the gentle souls, my post had nothing to do with stomping on women that were gentle souls, it was mainly about my disappointment in women doing themselves a disservice by not including themselves in such an amazing opportunity to empower themselves as permaculture enthusiasts.

Wow, that's intense about how hard it was to incorporate the chickens... I hVent experienced that but again, we've only had chickens for two years. We have intorduced three different groups together in the last two years. We are about to add 13 new chickens to our existing group of 9. The 9 are over a year and the new ones are about 3 months old. At this point they can see each other through a clear plastic panel but we haven't let them all together yet. I am. Going to do what we have done in the past and hope it works just as well. We have plenty of space for them and two coops for them to choose from. I will post on how it went if anything of interest happens!
