What if you extended the roof poles on the south side and made a walipini in that space?   They could share a thermal mass wall. To keep the yurt cooler in the summer the wall could be insulated and covered with something white.

If you are concerned about the weight of the mass all you have to do is put extra supports under the mass. Concrete blocks or treated wood posts.

I believe that would be overkill. I don't think the pipes in your floor could get that hot.
Second, How would you clean out the pipe?
Third, You would need to insulate from the ground outside the house down several feet to keep it from exchanging heat with the cold outside ground. Heating the great outdoors is a waste of energy.

You need to run a cable on or near the end of your roof boards. notch the boards or drill holes near the end. If you don't the roof will push out and collapse.

I've been messing around with the rims for a couple of years now, looking for ways to reuse them.
I think they would make nice smoke holes, and they are strong enough to be through bolted.

Yea, bike rims work for a center hub. This is my hub on a 15 foot yurt. I wanted to mount a small wind turbine on the shaft but never got around to it. I built it to take to festivals. It's been to Bonnaroo, Burning Man and a bunch of other festivals. My son commandeered the yurt and has been living in it off and on for the last 16 years.
