As someone who did a live, in-person tour of the facilities a few years ago, I would definitely love this. So much going on there that should be duplicated in the "real" world! Include the Ant Village as well!
My parents installed some misters along the roof of their carport. I was AMAZED at how much cooler their garage was and how even that little bit of mist kept the people cool too!
We have a plastic kiddie pool that we gather around in the morning and evening for a good cold foot soak and nice cold glass of infused water. It feels great! Also, what about the old college trick of getting a sheet wet and hanging it in the window or in front of a fan? Instant cool! Taking a cold shower works too!
I am wanting to create an apothecary garden that includes some larger bushes and trees. What would be your hands-down Top Ten must haves? I already have elderberry, raspberry, blueberry, cleavers, comfrey, echinacea, and parsley. Thanks!
I recently came across an article on an alternative to traditional knitting. The technique was called nalbinding. Do you know if you could make socks using this method?
Like Carly, I plan to expand my herbal garden this year and want the best plants for my Rocky Mountain area. I am also interested in becoming an herbalist and would like ideas of what to look for in a school. Thanks!
A farm near me gets huge grain bags for their chicken/turkey feed. I grabbed some of the empty bags and am using one for a bar-b-que cover and am using another one for a large "garden-in-a-bag"--no raised bed wood required! My husband used them to rake leaves into to transport them to our compost piles. They are extra heavy duty and have handles as well.
Gave these out at our wedding as thank you favors. A big hit with everyone! Plan to take a deck into my school for those "inside" winter days so kids can get exposed to the concepts. It's all about influencing them at a young age!
Was one of the lucky winners of this book and plan to make it a Christmas gift to many of my friends and family. Humorous, well-researched, and just outstanding. Wish it was required reading in all schools! Thank you!
I actually located the greenhouse on the south side of my house, so it is protected from the north wind. And I had made a homemade "solar panel" out of empty pop cans painted black in a frame, but it only helps in daylight hours. I also put a mylar emergency blanket on the north wall to reflect heat/light into the greenhouse better. Again, the biggest issue is at night when the temperatures plummet and there is no sunlight/warmth to capture. Thanks for all of the suggestions though!
