Hey,

I'm sorry I don't see anywhere to contact directly!

I want to change my login name, I didn't know what to put when I signed up and then was suggest the name I use for all my permaculture online activities, GroundAndFury, and I don't see anyway to change it.


Is there a way to do this, or to delete my account so i can make a new one? I've only posted a few times.

I thought the people on here might enjoy pictures of my next door neighbor's awesome cider press. It has been in his family for over 100 years!




The patent on the machine is from 1872. His family kept using it during prohibition when many got rid of their presses. He redid the wood recently, which is why it looks so nice.


I wrote a basic description of making cider on my blog, and would love feedback. I find when you look at the brewing forums there are a lot of really technical hobbyists (and often working with unpasteurized apple juice in the first place) and are not really making it as  classic homestead skill.

My understanding is that it would take a great deal of nitrogen to actually cause the beans a problem- I think the bigger issue is that they don't add more nitrogen if they don't have to so you aren't getting the full benefit of the nitrogen fixation.

i believe in a no-till three sisters garden if you leave the stuff in the field the fertility should stay there and increase. it's a very balanced system. Though obviously adding a good mulch in the fall and again shortly after planting is always helpful.

And while the Indians did use fish as a fertilizer, my understanding is they only did that in areas with fertility problems, it wasn't the standard practice.

I'm a hhhhuuuugggeeee fan of William Faulkner. I had so many complex ideas about what to write about I had no idea what a name for all of them could be, and then when I publicly asked for suggestions my best friend had the name right away. I also sometimes have a temper at the ground.


A big thing I failed to say, is that the "intermountain region" (between the Cascades and Rocky mountains) is a REALLY unique gardening area and you can't find shit for advice that applies to here, so a big part of what I'm going for is the "niche" of a lack of gardening advice for this exact reason with a different climate than everywhere else.

(though Washington State University does some great research, including chicken tractor research Paul Wheaton included in his main chicken keeping article...and WSU is but 14 miles from here.)

I've been reading this forum periodically for some time (mostly because google searches bring me here). I am in the process of starting a blog at https://groundandfury.com that is about gardening, farming, homesteading, and other related issues in the Palouse region. I figured I should finally start posting here and reading more regularly to get more ideas about material and meet people who can give advanced feedback. My blog is still getting up and going and not all of the key material is yet available. Further, the camera on my phone is broken so any pictures not taken by my wife are garbage haha, so forgive bad pictures.

Some of my particular interest are in classic gardening and homesteading texts, no-till gardening, hugelkultur, beekeeping, heirloom bulbs, and sustainable agriculture generally.

I look forward to using this forum and getting to know other people interested in sustainable agriculture!
