I forgot to mention that we planted a patch of good king Henry, bloody dock, comfrey and nettles for them.

An easy plant that is practically instant gratification is elderberry. Our chickens jump up to the branches to get to the greens. For longer term protein offering, we are growing Siberian pea shrubs, which is a nitrogen fixer. Win-win.

This is great to see! I am working with friends to build a solar kiln wood shed and then a green house with random old windows and doors. At first the guys were skeptical about it all, now they are proud of it as the step inside the ver warm wood shed! It’s still in progress as we ran out of weather in the fall.

I “grow” sun chokes on the west side of the house. They take care of themselves and provide shade in the mid to late summer sun, giving me a nice office window view. Groundnuts, also tubers, are planted elsewhere,

I look forward to reading Leigh's book. I am not managing a permaculture homestead and 166 year old house solo and reading other's stories keeps me in good spirits when I think I should just take the "easy" life.

So excited to see these plans. I had some years ago but could never lay my hands on them again. I am looking forward to building a dehydrator and putting it next to my solar oven next summer in my SolKitchen. Thank you!

I love Good King Henry, a lovely perennial spinach. It reliably has produced for me 6 years running and is an early spring green. Nothing like spring omelettes with garlic mustard, chives and Good King Henry and some of last year's tomato sauce!
