I look forward to reading Leigh's book. I am not managing a permaculture homestead and 166 year old house solo and reading other's stories keeps me in good spirits when I think I should just take the "easy" life.

Yes.... sharing the hardships as well as the blessings is one way communities can support each other.

Tell us a little more about your 6 acres.  Was it passed down from family?
Who is sharing the load with you ?
What are its greatest attributes/ qualities?
And what do you have planned for improvement or future changes?

Welcome to the forum's by the way(it is showing you have 3 posts at this time)!

I began homesteading in 82.  I changed locations once, and I have had to step out of mode once to raise money.  While it is not easy, it is rewarding.   Keep the dream going.
