Hey there,

I'm not sure if this counts, but I believe I have a potential residual income stream here. To be sustainable long-term, this needs to grow, with more subscribers. The simplest way to make this income stream work long-term is to automate the publication of posts several months in advance (I've already automated the posts for publication 2 weeks in advance), hire a VA to respond to subscribers and produce more content while I'm sitting on my mountain top. This particular stream is focused on makeup and special effects but also funds the production of a comedy series that will be hosted at Vimeo Video On Demand for a more passive residual income.

I also have a Patreon page for my videos and blogs about solar cooking and self-sufficiency (patreon.com/sunchefsara), but it is not generating income at present.

I published a book in 2008 and it was a nice source of passive income, but it is out of print now. I have two new books in the pipeline, though. Both of these will be sold on online platforms (probably Lulu and Amazon). If none of the above qualify me for this badge, I'll come back once my books are published.

Best regards,
Sara Hjalmarsson

Hey there,

I think I've fulfilled the requirements for this Badge Bit.

I earn all my active income through the following:

- Teaching English online
- Freelancing online

Best regards,

I believe I have completed this Badge Bit

I earn all my income through online/location independent work and have been doing so for a total of almost 5 years (this does not count the 2 years where I was working a regular job and doing online stuff on the side).

- Teaching English online
- Freelancing on Upwork
- Running a Patreon page (not sure if that counts as residual or labor)

My Upwork profile is available here: https://www.upwork.com/fl/~017e07310262d6db45?s=1484275369793736704

I'm sorry to hear your parents passed away and that you have no one to pass your property to. Currently, I own an apartment in the Swedish countryside, but am looking to move further south permanently in the future. I'm from a family that has worked a lot with managing their own properties. My grandparents on my father's side had a beautiful off-grid house in southern Sweden. Unfortunately, they lost it when my grandfather passed away and his spouse was unable to care for it on her own. I'm actively looking for new ways to develop my SKIP skills and Portugal is relatively close (it also hosts the CONSOLFOOD solar cooking conference every 2 years).

I haven't obtained my own homestead property yet, but I have friends who do (they're still stuck with massive mortgages, while my home is debt-free). My spouse and I are location independent (we both do all our work online), so we can both move on very short notice. I run a blog and Youtube-channel about solar cooking and self-sufficiency.

I don't have my PEP badges yet, and I'm pretty sure I don't have all the skills necessary to take on your property right away. But I'd love to visit and share my knowledge, my help and my time in return for learning more about how to manage your property. I'll send you a message and perhaps we can take it from there.
Wow, that's really interesting!

It's amazing how many natural/wild substitues you can use instead of steel wool - plant fibre, coconut husk, moss. With that said, I do use a copper scourer when nothing else works. Since it's copper, it's inherently antibacterial and doesn't need soap or detergent. Mechanical cleaning (scrubbing/abrasion) can often be adequate for simple cleaning needs - even without soap. The ash/charcoal bar sounds interesting. I will read up on it.

Could you clarify what you mean by Benzoyl? It sounds like you are describing benzoil/ben oil. Benzoyl is a specific type of hydrocarbon group, though it can make up part of certain plant glucosides.

Sounds like Moringa has good business potential with it's range of useful properties. Can you use the seed cake/seeds for anything else, once all the saponins have been extracted? Moringa leaves also contain saponins, as far as I understand. Have you tried using them, too?

Do you plan to grow any of the moringa or soapberry trees?

Sara, here is a special link just for you:   https://permies.com/pp/88/upgrade-glory-hjalmarsson

This will hit you up for $88.  You will then be upgraded to the $100 level with all ebooks (so no shipping).

Happiness?

Awesomeness, pure awesomeness! I'll use that link as soon as I can (weird pay days in this part of the world, may mean it'll take a couple days extra). I live in Sweden (northern Europe), so shipping x number of books will be expensive anyway - not to mention the insane import tax/fees. Might buy a few physical copies later on to donate to university and public libraries.

Sorry to hear they didn't grow, @Anne Miller. Do soapworts grow wild in your area? Perhaps you could transplant some.

I wasn't aware of the permies.com site before I came across the kickstarter campaign and I found out about the kickstarter campaign just a few days before it closed, so I was only able to contribute $12. However, I would like to contribute more because I'd love to see this project happen.

Paul advised me to make the request in this forum, so that is what I'm doing.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Hugo! Happy you like the topic.

It's awesome to hear you've got a patch of soapwort by your house. Sounds like it's a good climate for them, too! Mine's a bit cooler (zone 6). I'll take extra care to put my soapwort in a warm, sunny spot when I plant them. I have a clay soil on my plot, so that may be the best place for them.

The soapwort is a good resource to have on one's property and I don't think it should require that much work to harvest and process - perhaps hang it from some string above a heat source (radiator, the "mass" part of a rocket mass heater, etc) or in the kitchen. I've only ever bought dried Saponaria Officinalis root at healthfood shops before, so I really don't know if there's any further processing required.

When I used the dried root, I covered it with boiling water and let it sit overnight before straining. The liquid did a great job cleaning my dishes the next day.
