As a youngster my Welsh/Irish grandfather would cut long cedar poles, place them evenly through his field.
He would cut the hay with a sythe and mound it up the pole.
Using my cousin and I to climb on and mash it down combing the hay so the water would shed away from the pole.
The outer parts would be bad and put back into the soil.
Labor intensive, but if you have a fire you only lose one haystack not the barn and a years worth

In the past ive used the fences around my garden and porch deck as well as a 50' length of old repelling rope wth a carabener attached to a 4x4 used for a been pole withe a galvanised eye hook.
I like to make things serve multiple purposes.
God Bless

Could this be used for sprouted grains?
If so would they have to be dried after sprouting?

Could this be done with steel barrels?
If so hit up your local car dealerships we have to pay to get rid of 55gal. Barrels that motor oil came in and 5 gal. steel barrels that brake fluid cleaner comes in.
If you try remember oil is flamable.
and the cleaner is like gasoline.

My BSA Troop & church teen groups favorite was BEANS.
WE WOULD wash and let the beans set in apan overnight rinse in the morning put in dutch ovens cover with water use any left over bacon drippings and a onion. Bury the dutch ovens in the coals cover tops of oven.
Usualy we'd would make JIFFY MIX cornbread in a iron skillet.
Parents would always ask what magic we performed on the beans that thier kids would never touch at home.
My only answer was everything tastes better when your outdoors in nature, having fun, tired, and breathing Gods fresh air as a seasoning.
