***--- may I add my apologies to BURNT RIDGE NURSERY---  I bet they sell most or all of the unusual plants mentioned above! XD
A bit south of Portland in Silverton, in Willamette Valley is the spectacular OREGON GARDEN, with specimens of plants one doesnt see  often such as rare evergreens, Kousa dogwood, goumi tree and Vitex chasteberry. On the grounds there is a beautiful house by Frank LLoyd Wright. Also along the botany lines is the Hoyt Arboretum in that WA Park complex near Portand which has a 35' California Bay Laurel that reeks of cinnamon. Frederick Law Olmstead famous landscape archicect designed a lot of that complex. (Wild along the coast one can find wild Oregon Myrtle tho not all are fragrant.) In SE Portland one can hike trails between Oaks Amusement Park which has puttputt and Rides next door to a really spectacular Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge full of migrating birds particularly in winter and big heron rookery in spring, next door to good Willamette river access for swimming and rental kayaks at Sellwood Riverfront. There is also Crystal Spring Rhododendron Garden and trails, also Reed College has trails along their creek. Portland is full of extinct volcanoes turned into parks like Mount Tabor and Rocky Butte. If all this seems too crowded for a quiet nature walk, try Elk Rock Island.
PORTUGAL seems really interesting, in that there seems to be still a lot of medieval village and farmstead infrastructure. making it rustic and picturesque. But wondering why more Europeans havent already bought up all those run down old farms for vacation houses?  Like many nations, Portugal has a glorious history. How does one get water at your place? Are you keeping animals or gardening?
Exciting plans! Best wishes, -- Anna.

Ultimately, most conversations  alternate between people taking the roles of Parent/ Child/Equal Adult, hopefully not in an unbalanced way ... But in the Good/Bad Old Days, when psychology  wasn't  about so much about Self Improvement/ Making Money, but more about the Unconscious -- Eric Berne wrote an excellent book on this topic called GAMES PEOPLE PLAY, examining the Parent/Child dynamic in many relationships.  Nowadays its a rather politically incorrect book, bc it doesnt pull any punches, but IMHO a deeply insightful one.
Heres a link to the excerpt/preview on Google Books.
Everybody really SHOULD read this book!!!

For you authentic, painfully earnest types, the saddest hurdy gurdy  song ever, when one has "mistaken brass for gold."

Hi
If you are single, the question is why not? You have been very self- sufficient. You kind of sound not very needy, and its hard to get devotion from people who dont need it themselves.   If you are single, the other question is why?  These questions provoke for some soul searching, for me as well. Some people want more than labor, and more than company, altho at our age, those things seem harder to get, and mean more than they used to when we were younger and looking for love. I am not as young as I used to be, and do not have many hours of labor per day to devote to making your dream happen. However, I really do applaud the goals you have set, and share the values behind them. I am also extremely intelligent, but more in the well read/intellectual/artist/writer kind of way.  Id love to see your place and the progress youve made since this posting. Please let me know if you would like to chat more.
