Hey all, my name is Evan. I have 10 acres recently purchased about 6 months ago within city limits of a smaller town (red cloud, nebraska). I am in the process of subdividing the land into 4 separate plats and selling 3 of them. (They're not currently listed at the moment.) The 3 plats will be close to an acre each and the plat I'm currently building on will occupy just over an acre. All 3 plats have paved road access and water/sewer/electrical. So not a true off grid experience but potentially the best of both worlds.
I would like to guage interest in the idea of selling the plats to like minded individuals that would be open to help utilize the remaining 6ish acres of land for communal projects as a sort of co-op. With or without help, I plan to build a large greenhouse, storage unit facilities, a few tiny houses, renewable energy and grid battery facilities, fruit trees and whatever else can fit that benefits the core group and community as a whole. The idea is to make our living situation as sustainable as possible while utilizing excess resources to make a profit. (Selling veg at the market, renting storage and housing, selling excess energy back to the grid, etc. Essentially, bringing ourselves up so we can help others.
Red cloud has very lax building restrictions. yurts, earthships and other non-traditional building methods are accepted. The only caviat is because the 3 proposed plats are within a distance of existing sewer and water, you'd be required to be connected to the city. Webster county has some of the cheapest electricity in the u.s. and sprawling wind turbine farms that keep costs low. Red cloud is also home to the author Willa cather and has a thriving arts community supported by the Willa cather foundation. Ive lived in nebraska my whole life and this is one of the only smaller towns actually growing significantly.
A little about me. I'm 38, own a construction company and this land is my first attempt at a neighborhood development. I previously owned a decommissioned church that I remodeled and turned into an artist residency and performance space. I'm a music producer and artist and make music for tv/film. I'm also big into technology and efficiency. I co-own a small bitcoin farm and an iot communications company. I'm easy going but work hard and like being self sufficient, Open minded and creative. My 5 year plan is to get this property created, settled and self sufficient before moving on to the next plat of land where I intend to 3d print sustainable housing.
