I've been looking into raising rabbits and cuy in colonies rather than in individual cages, and I wanted to see if y'all had any thoughts about/experience with doing so with either. To note, my goal would be to raise them for meat.

As a secondary question, would it be possible to have both colonies living together in the same area, or would the two intermingling be an issue? My instinct is that it probably isn't the best idea, but then again mixed flocks of poultry can work, so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks!

I love wheat-based products, but growing wheat to make into consistently-available flour is not feasible for me given the time, effort, and space it would require. Are there any alternatives to wheat that I could grow instead?

A few notes:
- I am looking for something that can be used similar to wheat in making things like sourdough bread, pancakes, pizza dough, soft tortillas, desserts, etc. If a plant can be ground to flour but that flour, for whatever reason, does not work  well for making these things, it's not a good alternative.
- I need something that is easier, lower-maintenance, and more confined than wheat. If a plant can be used to make flour is high-maintenance, specialized, and/or takes up a ton of space, it isn't a good alternative. (Space can be relative, considering the yield of a plant; for example, an oak tree is much bigger than a single stalk of wheat, and yet if [hypothetically] an oak tree or two produce enough acorns to make the needed amount of flour, then their size isn't an issue).
- I live in USDA Zone 8a.

Are there any other feeder alternatives native to the Southeastern US that you know of? Black Soldier Flies are a great native option, but I'd prefer to culture more than one species if possible.

Ahh I hadn't considered that. After looking into it a bit more, it appears you are right. Alas, a solution to my dilemma they are not.

Update: I believe I have identified them as Tarnished Plant Bugs (Lygus lineolaris), a pest.

I am thinking about raising mealworms as a chicken feed supplement, but I worry about culturing and offering as food insects that are not native to my area. There is a mealworm relative called the False Mealworm Beetle (Alobates pensylvanicus) that is native to my area. Does anybody know if it is as easy to culture them as it is regular mealworms and if chickens and other poultry like them as much?
