Build a Small Pond without a Liner - PEP BB earthworks.straw.smallpond

This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in earthworks.

There are many ways to build a pond. What is best is going to depend on where it is built, what the subsoil is like and what equipment you have access to.  

Here is a demonstration in making a clay-lined pond.



From the video description:
"See the construction of a clay lined pond. This pond is approximately 300 square feet, 2 feet deep designed to add diversity to the permaculture site. The catchment comes mostly via the driveway through a swale, and overflows through a pipe with a baffle into another swale."

Minimum requirements:
   - Creation of a small pond that holds water without a liner
   - About 300 square feet in surface area
   - At least 4 feet deep
   - Importing clay is discouraged, but allowed

To get certified for this BB, post pictures or a video (<2 min) that demonstrate the following:
   - The site before the pond
   - The dam under construction
   - The spillway under construction
   - The disturbed soil being seeded
   - The final product filling with water
   - Pond full of water
