This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in Rocket.

This BB requires you to build a j-tube style rocket cook top!

To get certified for this Badge Bit you must provide:
  - 5 pics of build in progress
  - 4 pics of completed product
       o overview picture
       o j-tube
o vertical exhaust going into ceiling
o vertical exhaust coming out of the roof
  - 2 minute video of starting the fire and proving there are no smoke leaks
  - pic of food being cooked

Could I get this bit if I build it and cook outdoors?
Do I have to show assembling the core?  (I'd rather not put more strain on it by disassembling and reassembling).  Thanks!

Oops, I want to just do sand badge.  But this question may apply for other suburb dwellers.

I built a 6in rocket with cooktop for my friend's straw bale house then cooked an egg on it. I salvaged the cast iron cooktop with removable covers from a broken wood stove, the granite and brick from a demo site, and some of the stovepipe. I insulated the cooktop box. I also made an integrated kindling holder into the knob of the tee-cap to assist with cold starts. The vertical exhaust exits the cooktop box like a juicebox straw. The removable cast iron cooktop covers act as a cleanout for the cooktop box. The radiant barrel can be removed and acts as a functional cleanout - note that the barrel interface isn't ideal so I needed to put clay slip or "schmear" at the interface to ensure no leaks. I learned a lot from this design and would configure it differently next time. *Finish plaster and a heat shield were added to the house walls after the cooktop was built. My friend also gave me a lot of feedback on it's performance this past winter.

Note: Good job! I like your no-nonsense way of starting the rocket.
