This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEA curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Roundwood Working.

Though letters from friends are less common than they once more, mail is a social exercise. Ripping a ragged envelop opening to junk mail might be fine, but there’s a satisfaction in the clean edge of a letter opened with a letter opener. How much more satisfying when you yourself crafted it?

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
Turn a small piece of greenwood into a serviceable letter opener.
Should be carved from a single piece of wood.
Must use manual hand tools to craft.
Does not need to be fancy, but must be able to use.

To document and become certified for this BB provide photos or video (less than 2 minutes) showing the following:
- Show the wood and tools you will use.
- Show the item partway through the process.
- Show the finished letter opener.
- Prove it is functional by displaying the open end of a letter it was used to open.

Uh oh. Gotta go. Here, you read this tiny ad. Bye!
