This badge bit (
BB) is part of the
PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the
wood badge in
textiles.
In this
project, you will make a traditional felted wool yurt.
Minimum requirements:
- will use only natural materials
-
footprint will be at least 400 square feet
- felt the walls and roof with wool
- walls at least 5 feet high (much higher in middle)
- purchased dimensional lumber for the woodwork is allowed, but no kits
To document completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pics or
video (< 2min):
- Show and describe your plans, materials, and tools.
- Show constructing the woodwork portion of the yurt.
- Show making the yurt cover.
- Show setting up the round yurt frame.
- Show putting the cover on the yurt.
- Show your completed yurt in way that documents the required wall and footprint sizes.
The following resources will help you get started, but remember, to fulfill the requirements of this BB, you must use felted wool for your yurt cover.
