Summary

Paul continues his talk with Eliot, one of the people at the 2021 Rocket Mass Heater Jamboree to discuss the past week of the 9-day event.

Paul and co seem quite impressed with both the Liberator core and Matt himself – for instance, the core has a pellet hopper that doesn’t need to be plugged in to work and the guy actually knows his stuff, not just the brochure and is happy to talk pros and cons of the various builds as well as how they’ve improved.  Since the cottage rocket got installed four years ago, there’s been several improvements to the design, such as being able to take larger bits of wood whilst remaining similar enough that replacing it took a total of five minutes – just pull away the old one and shove the new into place.  It’s still not as efficient as a proper rocket heater and doesn’t like thermal mass much, but it’ll still cut wood consumption down by 2/3rds and keep the aesthetic of the room unchanged.

If you live in Europe, Walker won’t be able to reasonably ship you one of his products, but there is a European counterpart called Gamera that offers a comparable product of good enough quality that Matt had to admit that it was better than his in some respects (and of course his is better in others), albeit in metric measurements.

Bartell's bunkhouse, the 10 by 12 foot “wonkti”, is getting itself a new Rocket Mass Heater, despite its miniscule size and bizarre architecture to no end of mildly disparaging comments from Paul.  The boots have been working diligently to make it nicer over the months and its now a lot nicer than it used to be and is now a lovely little heated space to be alone for a while.
