About Melissa K. Norris

Credit: Summary prepared by Sunflower Rogers

Melissa K. Norris is a 5th generation homesteader who lives on 14.96 acres in the Northern Cascades of Washington State with her husband and two children.    Melissa and her family believe in keeping the old ways alive, and share what they have learned through Melissa’s blog, podcasts and YouTube videos.    Melissa covers a broad range of topics including homesteading, gardening, whole food recipes, lifestyle and DIY.

After a cancer scare, Melissa realized that the few processed and prepackaged foods that she did use were having a negative effect on her health.  She has since committed to a lifestyle that focuses entirely on whole foods and traditional homesteading skills.  Melissa has been sharing her recipes, tutorials, and things she has learned on her blog, podcasts, in her books, and on her workshops.

Melissa offers a variety of workshops and courses, including The Academy.  The Academy is a course that focuses on everything Homesteading.  Whether you are a full-time homesteader, a yard gardener, or farmer’s market shopper, Melissa’s course offers a wealth of applicable knowledge and skills.  The Academy offers guidance and community.  The private Facebook group for members allows for the sharing of ideas and help problem solving issues as you run into them.

Melissa’s Podcast, Pioneering Today, is all about getting back to basics, simple living and self-sufficiency with old-fashioned skills and wisdom in a modern world.  Her podcasts include an incredibly wide range of gardening topics, from companion planting to fish farming in a greenhouse, help with crop planning, homesteading’s business side, a wide range of preserving techniques and much more.
