This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Earthworks.

Natural swimming pools and ponds are pretty and don't require any toxic maintenance.  They do require some digging though...  Let's do the earthworks for a natural swimming pool!

Here's David Pagan Butler talking about a pond design he consulted on:

Minimum requirements:
  - Do the earthworks for a natural swimming pool or pond
  - At least 100 square foot swimming zone
  - At least 5' deep swimming zone
  - At least 100 square foot plant zone

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - Area you're starting with
  - Excavations underway
  - Finished earthworks (before any man made materials are installed)

there is nothing quite like quenching your over heated body on a hot summer day in the cool clear water of a pond, lake stream or river far away from any prying eyes of other people.
I used to have such a swimming hole but today a subdivision is about 100 feet away
