Volume 1 “Starting a Community” includes both general articles and on-the-ground stories from intentional community founders and other catalysts of cooperative efforts. This book aims to increase the survival rate of attempts to start intentional communities (itʼs estimated that currently just 10 percent move past the initial stages).

View Volume 1 Table of Contents HERE to read the introduction and see the list of articles and authors.  The Introduction is also shown below as well as the first and last pages of the contents (full contents available at the link above).

About Wisdom of Communities Series:

  • From 1972 to 2019, Communities magazine was published by the Foundation for Intentional Community. Still today, Communities continues to collect and disseminate the lessons learned of living in and growing in intentional community.
  • The Wisdom of Communities series is a distillation of over forty years of experience and knowledge into a 4 volume book series, published by FIC.
  • This series is intended to aid community founders, seekers, current communitarians, students, and researchers alike in their explorations. Each book is over 300 pages and features over 100 of our best articles.
