This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the Straw badge in Metalworking.

Need to drill a big hole but don't have the right size bit?  Let's forge a wood auger!

Here's a gentleman showing us one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Forge a wood auger
  - Any style is ok as long as it's for use on wood
  - Does not need to have a snail (screw tip) but it would work better with one
  - Made from hard steel
  - Visibly sharp

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The project underway
  - The finished auger
  - Augering a hole in a piece of wood

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
