This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the Straw badge in Traditional Skills.

There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza...  Let's make a watertight basket from tree bark!

Here's one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Make a water tight basket from a large piece of bark
  - Stitch it with spruce roots or similar root cordage
  - Sealing holes with pitch or resin is allowed
  - At least 8 inches wide and 6 inches tall
  - This bb can only use materials that existed 200 years ago

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The bark you're starting with
  - The basket under construction
  - The finished basket showing its size meets the requirements
  - Sped up video showing the basket 5" deep with water and not leaking more than 10 drops in 20 minutes
        - Perform this test on a surface that easily shows any drops of water

What's a year in metric? Do you know this metric stuff tiny ad?
