Gravity-fed water filter comparison Berkey v Doulton v ecofiltro

I am looking to get a gravity-fed water filter and have narrowed my choices down to 3 options: Berkey, Doulton, or ecofiltro.
Does anyone here have experience with any of these filters?
If so, what are your thoughts: pros, cons?

9/6/2018 the NY Times has a review of the Berkey and mentioned some other filters. As a fast summary, the article was concerned that the Berkey overstated the abilities of its black filters....it did give them high mark's for heavy metals.  The tests were pretty limited. I saw no reference to bacteria, viruses, or other life forms.  I do own a Berkey. But I got mine for free.

Frankly. I would think taking a couple of food grade buckets keeping a lid on the lower one, connecting them with a threaded nipple capped at each end (to hold the upper bucket to the lower lid, buying a spigot for the lower one, and a couple of ceramic filters would do as well and be darned more cheaper.  If the water to be filtered is dirty, a clean sock over each filter would help.

Currently, I'm leaning towards the ecofiltro because I like that at the end of its life 100% of the filter can safely go into my compost. No plastic parts to throw away! I used ecofiltros for months while traveling around Central America recently & never had an issue. The water they produced was always high quality & I didn't get sick.

While most of the reviews from the Berkey & Doulton filters are positive; the negative reviews seem pretty legit: mostly about the connection point where the filter screws into the base failing.

Any thoughts?

Exactly the problem with Berkey that I and others I know have had. Can't speak for Doulton. I'd say go EcoFiltro.

I have personally used Doulton Filtadapt which is great for me as I live in a rental property. Delivers great tasting water. Compared to other systems, I feel Doulton is a great choice. Replacements are easy to find. Their gravity system uses Super Sterasyl candles which equivalent to Ultracarb filter.

Did you check out any reverse osmosis system though. They look primosing than ceramic water filters.

I have a berkey at home after using it in the Mountains of Ecuador. I have the black filter one here and Every weekk or so I can see a build up of rust colored particulate at the bottom of the filters. I rinse out this and get a copper colored water in the top chamber which i spill out...so it seems to work well. The chlorine taste is gone too and water tastes rather pure.

The one i use in Ecuador utilized the white filters and after a few days one could see the sediment build up. I drank that water there straight frm the tap and it was fine but still the berkey cleaned it up.

the Doultan seems similar but Brit based.

Likewise, that site tested per industry standards for water quality and then tightened the standard protocols further till clear winners shined.

The Berkey with the additional white filters will remove even the nasty radiation waste in water due to fracking events leaching those things into wells.  Those other brands do not take water filtration to that level.
