I have a barrel that I removed the ends of to create a tube, and I've been filling it with alternating layers of food scraps and woodchips (to add
carbon and prevent smell).
I went out there today and saw a bunch of
maggots in my bin, probably due to all of the cooked and raw meat I've been adding. Is there anything I can do to help them decompose everything?
I've noticed that they seem to be staying in the shade, would covering half of the top with something be a good idea?
Should I add
water?
