Can I save my pawpaw?

I have a 7 year old pawpaw that got cut down yesterday by a well-intentioned friend who was helping me clear honeysuckle from our yard.

The pawpaw was the first thing I planted at my house and I'm devastated I never got to see it fruit!

Is there anything I can do to propogate it from the branches and let it live on in some way?

In my experience, pawpaw branches do not easily propagate. I have not had success with transplanting runners either.

Do you not have runners? I planted a pawpaw tree here (purchased from a nursery) maybe ten years ago, the original is now huge, and has 15-20 smaller younger trees surrounding it. They pop up from the roots of the main tree. Or maybe the runners didn't survive the honeysuckle event either?

Determining the difference between Bockings 4 and 14 is done by consensus. It's like trying to identify the difference between twins.

My pawpaw suckers if I prune them. So hopefully it will sucker.

You can probably try some rooting hormone and see if they will grow some new roots, but I think you will just have to buy some new plant. I recommend the Sunflower and Prolific cultivars, they fruit really early.

Iterations are fine, we don't have to be perfect
