I also live on the Alaska highway in northern BC. There is cord wood house near Prophet river, that I have visited, that seems to work well. There are a few things that should be done different, but over all its a success and works well in this environment.

A cord wood house! I was living in one and getting internet about 15 years ago when I first started learning stuff at permies!

What a wonderful opportunity to plan and design the kind of house you want!

Why not start with a slice of permie pie and watch all about free heat, and build your original outbuilding around that, while you figure out how you want to build. One thing I have learned is being cash strapped allowed me to take my time and do little improvements and make less big mistakes.

I guess you're going to have some time to huddle up under blankets and read the permies forums this winter!

All the best, and I don't think I'm alone in wanting to see progress pictures if the opportunity is there for that
