only ten 'zero replies' ?

I just noticed that the zero replies page has many fewer topics listed, only ten this morning.  

...something new in the inner workings?
Maybe just my computers 'view'?

Let me first say that I am not taking credit for the majority of the reasoning for what you cite; that is...and should be...credit given to a host of good people on Permies.

Yet I will admit that I really look at saying something to people who have 0 replies and that goes to what I was saying about having a heart for people in another thread. I figure it would be disheartening and discouraging to write a legitimate question, and not get an answer, or reply of some sort. If there is someway I can reply and at least make them feel acknowledged, then I have done something for humanity and the Permies group in general.

To me that sometimes means remaining mum on decisive thoughts, but it can also mean replying.

That would be wonderful Travis...and maybe is the case.  I see the dates only go back two days though so I just wondered if the cut off was changed.

hahaha...I just caught what you said here.

I have a thread in the chickens forum with 0 replies that is not on the zero replies list (I'm not complaining). I don't think the list is accurate, or like Judith mentioned, the list is finite with a cut-off date.

Hi James...do you know the date on your thread?  Our own topics don't show in the 'zero replies' (fancy algorithms) but I should be able to see yours and I don't .

I try to reply to these too but a lot of the subjects are really specialized or I have no idea about the answer.  If the question interests me I may do some research.

ok I didn't know that our own threads don't show in the zero replies list. It's the ratty chicken picture exchange thread. All I can find is "3 weeks ago" not a specific date. Can staff members with authority can view the exact date it was created?

since you have 'pie' you can change some settings in your profile to where you can see the date and time for everyone's posts including your own. should have the dates and times automatically at everyone's posts...I didn't see it in the 'pie preferences' at my profile. (EDIT)

I'm pretty sure that three week old posts were off the 'zero replies' page anyway.

One thing you might try is just to 'bump' it up yourself and give it another go.  

...and anyone with pie can add topics to up to three forums and that sometimes helps get a thread in front of folks who can answer.

I like helping people and one of my favorite places to read topics was the "Zero replies".  Maybe I could not answer their question ... just bumping it to get some replies which sometimes works.

When it changed to only reflect only a few post and most of them were the kind that did not require a reply, I quit looking there.

I've noticed that too. I used to occasionally go to the zero replies page and answer anything I could, particularly saying hello to new members if their posts hadn't been answered in a few weeks. Lately there have been only a handful of posts there, all of them recent. If that is actually reflecting a high rate of answered posts, that is great, but if not, maybe something could be changed.

You guys rock!  It's wonderful people like you, helping out that make this site so amazing.  Thank you so much for keeping an eye on the zero reply list.


I did something behind the scenes.  It's not a fix.  It's probably going to make things harder to fix.  But I wanted to test something.  In theory, you should be able to see about 10 more zero reply threads.  - can anyone confirm if it worked?

I currently see 11, the last being 3 days ago.

I still only see ten but that's up from the eight I saw earlier this morning.

10 is better than 8... but not as good as more.

It's going to require a better brain than me to fix this.  I'll see what we can do.

FYI you can hover your mouse pointer over the "X hours/days/weeks/months/years" stamp to see the date and time of the post. I believe that is in Lab Time. I tried it while logged out in another browser, so it doesn't appear you need anything special to do it, other than a mouse pointer. I never used mobile before now, but it seems to default to showing the date and time instead of "X time ago".

I've used the zero replies feature on other sites to help lots of people, but I guess I never paid attention to it here before. I have no idea if it has a cut off. Luckily many threads here tend to get quality replies, and posts that don't belong here get nuked fast.

good one! I completely forgot about that.  I know we can 'hover' on someone's name (when the thread is open)  to see when they joined but totally forgot that a hover would show the date of the post.
