We have a 9-month-old weather. He is more of a pet than anything. He was a bottle fed lamb who limped but seemed to overcome it. About two months ago his back hind legs started to turn out and were wobbly. We think it may be a dislocated hip.

we have had the vet to look at him twice. she also thinks that it may be a dislocated hit but is not sure why his legs are bowing.

I have video of our lamb walking that I want to post in forums where I might be able to get some advice. do people have recommendations of where I could post the video where it could be seen by others who have sheep?

I read your post when it was originally posted but didn't have any useful ideas at the time...but today, by chance, I came across a post in another forum about rickets in a lamb due to vitamin D deficiency. That lamb had been treated with vitamin D shots and sunlight, and recovered. There wasn't any further info provided about dosage, frequency etc. But maybe this is something to look into if you/your vet haven't found another solution yet?

We did once have a goat develop paralysis of the hind legs which we thought was due to meningial brainworm picked up from white tailed deer which were abundant where we lived in New Brunswick (Canada) but it doesn't sound like the same thing you are describing.

Hugs!  It's so bad when they aren't doing well.  More hugs!

What kind of milk did he drink?

What is the diet and minerals you are giving him?  Is he getting salt?  Note, salt and minerals are considered separate and different things with livestock.

Is he dark in colour?  Black or brown?

My first instinct is something wrong with him not getting enough Vit D.  Either something about the milk that he isn't digesting the right kinds of fats, dark colour wool which will prevent Vit D absorption, or an imbalance in his regular minerals (too much of one, not enough of another).

It's also very much like early-mid stages SE (selenium) deficiency - but before you give him SE, it would be good to know where you are.  An overdose of SE kills quickly, but SE deficiency takes several weeks/months to kill a sheep.

Minerals are really difficult because the pre-mix minerals aren't customized to different locations.  I have to buy special minerals this time of year to supplement the regular mix.

As for the video, I'm not sure.  I tend to use youtube and post it as "unlisted".
