Hi All,

i want to plant Dandelion, asap. Goal is to use its roots as excract for cancer treatment,
specifically small cell lung cancer(SCLC).

There are reports that something in dandelions kills cancer cells:
webpage

Pandey’s earlier research showed how dandelion root extract caused cancer cells to kill each other while sparing normal, healthy cells.

Some permie gut feeling tells me that commercially available products stem from a monoculture of dandelions which probably is not as good as a wild flower.

Now what is a wild flower? Does the random dandelion on a fallow field count?
But then again the attempt to research the history of said field spells trouble.
Again permie gut feeling tells me you don't want to use dandelions from a field
that had evil agricultural practices taken its toll on it.

So i want to grow dandelions specifically for this purpose.
And i want to grow dandelions that are at least as good as those that grow randomly in the landscape.

Currently i have access to a small field in the mediterrean,
you can get a rough description of it here:
webpage

As described in the thread, it is embedded within an area with no agricultural
activity in the last decades but for mowing and grazing of cattle, goats and sheep.
(and of course my small scale messing around with earthworks, shrubs and fruit trees)
So i assume it is "clean".

(most of the yellow stuff here is Ranunculus)

There are some dandelions there, but i am not sure if there is enough,
as most of the stuff there clearly isn't dandelions:

There are some in disturbed areas:

Now look, i don't even know which species specifically i should grow, and where to get the seeds from.
So any help is apreciated, but i am looking for that elder who can just say
"Get this, do that", because of experience.

All techniques and inputs allowed.
Companion plants, irrigiation, soils, mulch, amendments, greenhouses, compaction, disturbance even a plot in a different climate, you name it, i bring it.

Disclaimer:
I know this is a serious topic, and giving advice might be legaly troublesome for some people in some countries,
but currently the alternative is internet bought extract sold as dietary supplement.
So yes, it has been diagnosed as terminal so this may be more of a coping mechisn than an actual treatment,
but i think there is no risk to trying it, as side effects of this treatment have been reported to be negligible.
And i firmly believe that what i can grow with love and the help of this community will be more effective than
what can be bought commercially, no matter what the actual effect is.

Hello R,
Unfortunately the plants you have featured are not dandelions. They look much more like sow thistle to me. That said, I would be suprised if you do not have the real danedlions in there somwhere. Take a peek here at Eat The Weeds article on dandelions. A key feature is that dandelion may have numberous flowers per plant, however there is only one flower per stalk, and the stalks do not branch.

I like Strictly Medicinal Seeds. Here is the link to dandelions. One note, especially when ordering medicinals, do verify you have the correct item by verifyng the Latin names. In separate regions, there are many common names for very different plants.

Dandelions are rare in unimproved pasture from my experience, there's plenty of lookalikes but not the real deal, they seem to relish growing in areas humans have disturbed and do not compete well in tall unmown areas.
From my experience of them as a weed they tend to germinate in the spring but do not produce a large root until the following year, some exceptions I have are huge monsters that grow with my strawberries, with the extra water and compost the strawberries get the dandelions get huge in their first year.

How much of a dose do you need each day as weight of root?

In my experience dandelions show themselves when the area is mowed down to allow sunlight in. We had few dandelions in our pasture until my husband mowed it down then they popped up everywhere.

I harvest dandelions after they go to seed even in my garden beds because I want them to propagate. This may not be the best time for potency since some energy went into the seeds, but the roots and leaves still look good. Typically, the time to harvest roots of most perennial herbs is in late fall when all of the energy goes into the root for the winter. Again, I don't worry too much about this since I want the leaves for their kidney cleansing properties as well as the root for its liver cleansing properties.

There are wildcrafted herbal preparations but you may find them to be expensive. One of my favorite places for high quality organic herbs is Mountain Rose Herbs. I have purchased from them for many years and their quality is always tops. If I need something right away, I get it from them. Then I work at growing my own, if possible.

Did not happen here. The neighbour mowed the adjacent field.
As he mowed them on different days before the drought, the patch that was first cut before drought recovered a bit and stayed greenish,
while the patch that was mowed too close to the drought did not have time to recover and went all yellow.

Pictures are two weeks old, just at the end of the drought, we had some rainfall since then (ca. 150 mm - 200mm), so it became
green-ish again but still no sign of danelions.

Given that the patient is off chemo-therapy now as the person was too weakend to go on with it,
i find it hard to belive that the wildcrafted preperation will be too expensive,
as the dandelion root extract is the only cancer medication the person is getting now.
Can you recommend a website where to buy it in europe?
