So, last week I got a checkup. It was my first one in about four years. He bumped up the strength of my reflux meds to ease potential harm to my esophagus, and suggested I lose weight -- I'm, I guess, slightly obese; fat enough that medical folk want to blame everything on it and I have to be a little skeptical when considering real causes, but also fat enough that my knees and hips don't love it, maybe my reflux is tightly coupled to that and maybe not, based on outside reading. He and the nurse both seemed surprised my BP was fine given my weight and age (53).

Anyway, I had to come back for fasting bloodwork and got my results last night while I slept. Everything is in the normal range. That's how it was last time too, with a different doc. They're clearly surprised when it comes back like that.

But anyway, go me!  :-)

Hi Chris;
That's great your bloodwork came back with good numbers!
I'm surprised they are not hounding you about weight and diabetes.
It seems to be their favorite thing to warn me about and I am not overweight.
If fact with my new, have 1/2 your teeth removed diet I've lost over #10 in the last month. (Not a diet I recommend)

Mainly I'm writing to ask you if they checked your PSA level?
It is an extra test that I have done every other year.
A rising PSA level in men indicates prostate cancer.
I have lost my dad and several friends to this sneaky cancer.
A simple test can alert you in time to stop it.

I suggest considering adding it to any blood tests that you or any guy have done in the future.

To be fair to this doctor, he said that obesity isn't thought to be as bad as it used to be, but diabetes and joint issues are still strong correlates. My mom had diabetes associated with being fat, but my numbers are still good.

PSA was one of my tests and my 0.43 result is super-healthy.

It seems that the blood panel this place does is pretty comprehensive. I got more scores than I remember getting at the old place (though I haven't actually checked to be sure).

At Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburg,  I spoke with Dr.  Peter Jennetta who had about a 33% success rate in corrrecting Type II diabetes through brain surgery on the Trigeminal nerve (?).   My point being is that there are probably multiple reasons why Type 2 exists.

Also, it strikes me as worth noting how cool the world is. I remember when getting results took two weeks and the doc had to call and chat about it. I received the results to the MyChart app on my phone and then a text analysis from the doctor when he got to it (while I slept).

That feels good. Thanks. Here's a tiny ad:
