My husband bought me a soil blocker and it’s about time to put it to use. I don’t want to buy a bunch of imported material to make the soil mix. Any ideas for what I might be able to use?

There are several recipes here on the forum for making potting soil most end up using items that would need to be purchased.

Other than using soil from your garden I can't develop a solution.

This is a unique solution using compost and straw:

I'm mixing 1 part Peat Moss, 1 part Compost, 1 part Top Soil and Fertilize with Rainbow Pro Mix Grow and Lime.

Was using 1 part Vermiculite but was told this was a no no and my Mix was holding water.

I bet compost would be good for a soil blocker without having to buy other things.

Everyone knows that plants always come up in a compost pile.

Here are some threads that folks might find interesting:

I have trouble with Soil Blocker because some places I put Trays is about shoulder high and my blocks get destroyed trying to put them up there with one hand.

Do better if everything is in cups. Most I get a little wet.
