Wrinkly egg

I have seen eggs with a wrinkle here or there but today I got a very super wrinkly egg

I've read about Infectious Bronchitis, or IB, and it seems like that is a common cause for eggs like this and that the prognosis is dire.
Last week I went to a new feed store, I hope that wasn't a mistake. I also have lots of wild birds and other creatures around here.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I really hope it's not too serious.

I was hoping it was the first egg from a hen who has recently stopped being broody.

Matu I have a hen who laid a few eggs like that over the course of a week or two and then started laying normal looking eggs. It was the hens first time starting laying so maybe you are right that it is just one of your hens starting up her production again after broodiness. I too have a lot of wild birds who eat side by side the chickens and had not really thought about them contributing disease. I am always on the lookout though, ready to remove and cull any sick chickens

I would just not worry and watch for other symptoms of IB and be ready to remove the sick from the flock asap, but my experiences are limited as I am relatively new to chickens.

Sometimes old hens do that, and sometimes they do it when they are about to stop laying, and sometimes they just do it at random for no apparent reason. I wouldn't write her off just yet!

One of our hens lays eggs that have a swirl at the tip similar to what you have there only a little less pronounced. Every single egg since she started laying (3 years ago) is the same. Just a little twist/swirl on the end. Aside from the fact that she just makes a hell of a lot of noise when she lays, she seems normal.

I had wanted to start a thread of "odd eggs" so we could share these curiosities. I had one a few weeks ago that was shaped like a peanut. Maybe more like a bowling pin. Anyway... Chickens do lay some wacky looking eggs from time to time. Have you ever gotten one with no shell? Double shell? Double yolks are pretty common too.

I've gotten some odd shapes before, especially when young ladies first start laying.
