The kickstarters are the lifeblood of the projects that we do here. Funds from the rmh dvd kickstarter helped to make the land purchase possible. Funds from the cards project bought materials for a lot of projects.

Plus, we are already planning stretch goals to gather additional footage.

When we started putting the kickstarter together, we were worried whether we would get enough to even meet the bare minimum. It looks like we will get to the bare minimum - hot dog! One less thing to worry about. But it is the funds that come after the bare minimum that funds future projects - including gathering the raw footage for future DVDs.

So, when folks say "relax, man, you're gonna hit goal" I feel the need to share that not only do we want to go past goal, but the more we go past goal:

1: the more cool stuff we can do in the future

2: the more people learn about the empire

3: the more people see permaculture as having value

4: the more interesting we become to media in the future

5: we were going to go back to the site and get more footage of how things turned out

6: bart was going to buy a camera-on-a-drone thing to get arial footage

7: for enough funds, we thought it would be good to do the whole workshop a second time, here in montana - so we have lots more examples of what was done

What are some other reasons to support the kickstarter past the goal?

Thanks for the insight, Paul - I never even thought about the "goals of going over and above" the target amount but it makes perfect sense.

I will have to think about other ideas - your list seems pretty complete at first glance.

Is there a way to show stretch goals and what they would go for? This was my first time in kickstarter and it took me a bit to realize you can still donate after it is funded. My brain looked at "funded" and thought that project was a success and complete.

Btw, it was a nice feature to be able to go in and look at who else you funded, knowing if probably be interested on some. I ended up funding the seed company that was in your list.

Is there a section where people can highlight cool/interesting/valuable kickstarters for us to go look at?

I saw on Nat Geo where a guy was using one of those 4 rotor blade copters with a camera on it and controlling it thru his ipad....pretty neat. I wonder if you couldn't just reprogram a Satellite to do a flyover and get fresh pics from Google? that is in jest because I know you have got too many things to do.

I would love to contribute to the Kickstarter, but I don't have any credit cards. Kickstarter doesn't take PayPal, and neither does Amazon, which means I can't even buy the DVDs once they go on sale to the general permies. The only option I seem to have is to buy a prepaid credit card, which always means I lose the last few dollars on it because no purchase is ever the right amount to clean out the card. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I have yet to meet a merchant who will not allow paying by two means, a card plus cash. My wife and I often each pay for part of a load of groceries, sometimes on two cards, sometimes a card and cash... whatever.

Hello, neighbour! The cards I have used in the past were labelled as being for "electronic purchases" only, which I believe means that they were not for brick-and-mortar retail use. I never actually tested that premise, but I did a quick search and found that Canada Post, as well as others, sell reloadable Visa cards. I will have to investigate further, but that might resolve my issue.

Speaking for myself, I'm just waiting for my first paycheck this month and then I'm in for the streaming. I made the decision as soon as I heard of the project, I just have a very strict budget that I never deviate from. I don't know if anyone else is like me, but you may have many other funders just waiting in the wings fully intending to help fund the thing but who haven't pulled the trigger for whatever reason.

I've announced the stretch goals of the kickstarter: return to the site; get a video drone to take ariel footage; super fancy animations; do the workshop over with giant excavators here in Montana and YOU can come drive the excavator!

Plus two new rewards: one that includes an hour of me consulting, and another that is the famous "Supreme Executive Producer with Bacon, Cheese and Sparkles!"

I, like others, don't have the funds available right this moment, but as soon as I do, I'm going to "fund" this! Hubby and I are wanting to build at least one pond on our property and I've been looking at all kinds of Hugelkulture video's on Youtube so I'm definately interested in those too!

I see it's currently at $20,809! Way to go people!

I would advise you to look very carefully at the fine print prior to purchasing a "pre-paid card" - I've heard some unsettling stories. Post "patriot act" they apparently need a lot more "documentation" including social security numbers, and the money you "pre-pay" can be held for a few weeks until they send you a card with your (verified) name on it, although that may vary from "provider". also check the fees, as they can vary quite a bit from card to card too.

just saying, do check the fine print if these kind of things bother you.

Here is the animation that was used in the credits for "pyronauts keen on world domination" for the 4-DVD set:

Here is the first draft that Bart has put together for "charmers of nature keen on world domination"

Since nobody selected it at $500, I dropped the price to $350. http://kck.st/1jtmswG

Ok, you got me with the inner circle thing. I upgraded from 125 to the 150. However, I already have the 4 DVD set of rocket mass heater, can I donate the streaming to someone else?

I doubled to 150 and would give more for some permaculture playing cards, say 5-10 over market.(I put my idea about adding those in another post so sorry for the redundancy.) Maybe a new add on to pull in more cashflow, I'll happily pay more for some cards to help you make even more money of this one. Worst case, you unload a few more of those cards.

1 other thing, can I possibly get access to the streaming stuff sooner than April? I've got a 6 month "work trip" and won't have internet, but would love to maximize learning with some burnt pods and such. (Would be happy to explain that work trip in pm if you desire an explanation, Paul and co.)

I doubled my funding to $150! I couldn't pass up the Fire DVD's plus the orchard and inner circle....does this mean I can wear a hooded robe at the next inner circle meeting That's a joke for those that don't have a sense of humor.

Hmmm ... maybe as long as we are putting a bunch of stuff in a box, we could inslude a mug and tshirt and ... maybe four decks of cards.

I would have to limit it to the US. I sent a brick of cards to england a few days ago. The shipping was $61.

Streaming of stuff that already exists: yeah, we could do that.

Streaming of stuff that does not yet exist: we're going to have to get it to exist first.

Friends. Friends are wonderful. Ask one who has a credit card to enter it for your purchase, and you pay him/her cash. Attractive if they collect points or get a rebate on their credit card.

Just moved up to The Care Package cause I like the cause... and swag, plus fond anchored memories of Grandma's boxes of comic books and baked goodies we called Care Package, she would send to the summer cottage. Onwards to blow out the doors level funding for this project.

Bart and I had a chat and we decided "WE'RE DOING IT!"

We're going to make a 15 minute (or so) micro documentary. Very rich, very well done, very professional and information packed. It will be focused on hugelkultur. Topics covered will include: How to shape your landscape to be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer; encouragind diversity inside the hugelkultur as well as outside; organic vs. permaculture.

While the full 3-DVD set is for urban gardeners as well as people with acreage, and the full 3-DVD set will contain far more information on hugelkultur, this micro documentary will be focused on gardening and have no focus on projects with larger acreage.

This video will be made available to all supporters of this kickstarter. Including the $1 supporters. In fact, the hope is to get thousands of $1 supporters.

Further, if we get 3000 supporters total (there are 399 supporters at this moment - and we have 11 days to go) we will make the video free to the world.

Great idea! Personally I would like BOTH the smaller
AND larger acres in the DVD as I don't know which one I will end up with.
Free or not, I would like to have it.
