You guys! I have 3 beautiful ducks a friend gave us, and they are just lovely, but I've been calling them 'the ducks' for two weeks now, and that's gotta change.

In honor of these lovely ladies, I'm sponsoring a little giveaway on the Permies Facebook page!

You can win a set of Paul's Permaculture Playing Cards if you make the winning name suggestion!

To enter, just comment with your suggestion on the Facebook post, like the Permies Facebook page, and like, comment, and share that post! Contest ends Sunday night at midnight MST, have fun everyone

Lizzy, Juultje & Babette. Those are the names (in Dutch) of the three nieces of Donald Duck's lady-friend (her name is Katrien in Dutch).
You might not know how to pronounce these Dutch names, so you can choose the English names of the three nieces (I don't know).

Ah, but what do you want these ducks to do?

1. Hoover, Meile and Rainbow if you want them to vacuum up slugs. (or choose your own favorite vacuum brands)

2. Xerox, Gestetner and Savin if you are willing to take a page from Dan Needles and encourage them to "reproduce" - that one gets lots of smiles from people who are old enough to have met the machine called, "Gestetner", and reproducing smiles is something I very much approve of also.

3. Or you can just be weird like me, and name them Sine, Cosine, and Tangent.

Are you actually able to reliably tell them apart? That's been a problem on our farm with several female Muscovys. It seems I stick a name to the one who goes broody first each spring, and then we can tell for most of the summer based on which group of ducklings hangs closest. That's not bullet-proof, as the two sisters are prone to swap off parenting responsibilities (one just *loves* to sit on eggs, and the second seems to quite enjoy parenting), but it meets the basic need of not having to call every female duck "mom".

Good luck on finding names that bring you joy!

J.

Oh my gosh, I actually already had a hen named Mrs. Featherbottom! She passed away this year, but I LOVED that name.

People that like Arrested Development rock my socks!

Congratulations, Diana! Loads of great name suggestions.

I loved that poem for a night-time story for my kids. I was looking for a lovely reading of the whole thing and I found it as a song, instead.

(Sorry, I couldn't decide which version I liked better!)
