Hi friends of the Permie realm!
We’re Soul Fire Forest — an intentional, permaculture-based homestead + community space in Montague, MI. Think: enchanted forest village energy meets feral children’s laughter meets a workshop on how to build a TLUD stove out of a trash can. We host gatherings, build regenerative systems, raise a whole pile of kids, run workshops, preserve food, fix random machines, and inexplicably… love it here.
Before anything else, clarity matters:
Our #1 priority is childcare primarily for our youngest goblin (2yo in March) and food prep support.
Our #2 priority is social media management (and possibly website support, depending on skills).
Our #3 priority is general homesteading project support.
We want to be transparent that we can’t really direct or expand homesteading projects unless the childcare need is filled first. Kid support unlocks everything else.
But we need help — especially in the childcare + food prep zone.
The children outnumber the adults. The snacks outnumber the children. And we are just two tired forest gremlins trying to run a village.
🧚♀️ WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Childcare humans who align with conscious parenting, attachment-friendly, unschooly, non-yelly values. This could be:
✨ A nanny
✨ A granny looking to adopt new grandbabies
✨ A young educator who thrives in the chaos of nature-based learning
✨ A forest auntie/uncle who is calm in the presence of glitter glue
✨ Anyone who knows how to redirect a meltdown with the power of snacks and vibes
We deeply prefer applicants who actually like children (shocking, we know).
Context: we have Skye (2) full-time, two girls (4 & 6) here every other week, and two teen boys here part-time. The teens can fend for themselves (and often make themselves useful) — we are not seeking support for them.
🥗 ALSO SEEKING:
Kitchen help / food prep help. If chopping veggies while chatting about regenerative culture is your ideal afternoon, hello. Especially on week girls ARE here.
📣 SECONDARY NEEDS (ONCE CHILDCARE IS COVERED):
Once childcare needs are met, we could also use help with:
• Social media management
• Website support (depending on your skills)
• Building projects
• Animal care
• Food forest maintenance
• Firewood collection
• Harvesting and food preservation
• General homesteading project support
🏕️ WHAT WE OFFER:
A beautiful piece of land to park your own dwelling (RV, bus, van, tent, yurt, Hobbit house, spaceship — you bring it).
Community garden and food forest
Access to water.
Limited electricity if you’re close enough to run a cord (usage will be part of the conversation).
Some fresh produce from the land.
Occasional shared meals, especially on work days.
Community connection, forest magic, and a place to land for Spring / Summer / Fall.
Winter only if your setup is winter-ready (we are not trying to retrieve frozen humans).
⏰ THE EXCHANGE:
We’re envisioning a clear, part-time exchange, not an “always on call” situation. We’re still learning what’s standard for arrangements like this and are absolutely open to negotiation and working out agreements on a case-by-case basis, depending on fit, skills, and season. Childcare hours would be scheduled and predictable.
