This is Papi V...he weighs less than 4 pounds...and he's perfectly happy to take on large snakes or full grown hawks. My full grown Dominique Rooster Hamlet (10 lbs at least) says yes sir...as you wish sir...

They will nibble some...the voles do here...but if they like where you planted them you'll still get a serious crop. And if you have chickens, they are mighty fond of boiled groundnuts!
Don't forget sassafras and chaste tree!

I do something similar to Robin's method above but I use a heavy cast iron Dutch oven over a low fire. Something about the fire makes the taste richer somehow...or maybe I just really like fire! Also that last bit of fat and 'meat sludge' can be used to fatten up a sausage recipe made from really lean meat like venison or rabbit or you could make your favorite canine companion verrrry happy!

My better half bought me one of the titanium blades and carved a beautiful handle for me...with snapdragons on it...last year for my birthday. A year later I am still super duper happy with it! It weeds, it chops roots, it scythes grass, it gently moves snakes, it makes nice planting holes and rows, it cuts blackberry cane, it pulls down elderberry clusters I can't reach and I've even pulled an escaped chicken out from under the hedge with it. And it doesn't rust!!! (I live in the deep south, this is a big deal!) This is absolutely the BEST garden tool EVER! Even better than my meadow creature broadfork! You should get one.

Fully Commando unless I need to wear a pair of pants or shorts more than once or twice...then I've scoured the local thrift stores for 100% silk fabric items to remake into 'tap pants' type of undies...close fit enough for jeans and long enough to avoid thigh rub. Look for French panties patterns (I found a historical pattern at the library) A thin hand made cord or a hemp/ cotton cord from the fabric  store for a drawstring works perfectly fine if you can't find real rubber or latex elastic and wear higher seated waistbands. If you can't sew, or just have too much else to do, look for local taylors or places that offer alterations...they can probably provide all sorts of help...especially if you can bring a drawing or pattern. The Japanese undies are fabulous under loose fitting garments but sort of feel like diapers under close fitting pants even made of light silk. Good luck in your search!

JANE, I repair knit fabric all the time. Place a small piece of other knit fabric behind the tear and use a zigzag stitch.. works beautifully. Doing the stitches in a contrasting color makes it fun too!
