They can also smell their nest locations so it helps to clean the aria well to remove the pheromones.

Look for a cabinet shop, talk with the owner and ask for their sawdust and wood shavings. Tou have to ask if they mill a lot of black walnut because it is not good for the compost or the plants you use it on.

I work at a hotel as an engineer (work on commercial laundry equipment). Before I moved to Hawai’i I worked construction and was a commercial fisherman. I also managed a small tropical fruit farm. I also have a one acre farm that my wife and I are bringing back to production, cleaning years of trash left over from years of squatters.

I have tried, the denaturing scent stays so it ruins the smell. Ever clear is the best but any high proof booze works.

Ruined my first batch of bay rum extract with isopropyl alcohol.

How does your garden grow?

Mostly with gray water and a few solar powered  hydroponic systems.

We also grow a lot of cactus.

Just realized that I have not introduced myself, my name is Stephen and I have lived off grid on the dry side of Hawai’i Island for over 5 years. Before that I was in the Florida Keys. I have spent years growing tropical food crops, mostly fruit. When my family and I moved to Hawai’i we had a dream of living off grid and as efficient as possible. I built a small house, no septic system, all water used 2 times composting toilets and a garden. We have recently bought an acre high up mountain in the woods to start a small fruit and vegetable farm to feed my family and make a small amount of $$. I am now a steward of a bit of land with plums, figs, loquats and cherimoyas. We recently planted some citrus and an apple tree. We are in the process of cleaning about 20 years of garbage from squatters.
The information I have learned from you all so far is great and I hope to learn more.

Thank you very much.
