Will's Boot Camp Experience

So today is one of our days off during the event and wanted to share some of the latest photos from the event with you all!

I've been getting a lot of video that I hope will be of great use for the newest film of the RMH Jamboree, but I'll just share some stills here for now and save the juicy real bits for the film. We worked on making cob and RMH structures, prepping materials for builds, MANY discussions of design and theories to be experimented, it's been a blast with a mix of chaos running around to capture as much as possible!

Well we made it through day 6 here with the RMH jamboree.

A lot was accomplished on my day off so I had some catching up to do today, but most of the projects were getting fired up and tested for efficiency and effectiveness.

The Rocket Sauna design was reverted to it's original state with the addition of a clean out and a sauna bench fit for at least 4 people.

The Lorena design looks amazing and is still being tested as I speak. Also very impressed with the window shutters that were created from a section of the overhanging structure with a stylish dimensional lumber trim and hinges.

Got a bit more footage today, though not as much as I would have liked because staging the shots is half of everything and I'll get more of that as the projects reach completion.

It still feels like I'm running on "Event time" instead of being back to our normal boot schedule.

I'm so grateful we could set the schedule to have a nice 4-day weekend after all the work during the RMH Jamboree.

I've been able to sort through all of my footage from the event and get it ready for editing. Now I just have to do so with the extra footage from one of the attendee's of the event.

However, aside from that, miss Erne and I are planning a trip up to Glacier National Park for a couple days off and staying lakeside for hopefully some lovely scenery while we're up there. Can't wait to grab some photos along the way to share!

I also completely missed out on gathering pics for this week because I just really needed a break from being behind a screen.

I will be spending much more time behind one in the weeks to come.

I have really been excited for the boot days coming up and the projects we'll get to work on as I find it much more enjoyable than videography. 😏

Also, winter is coming! And I'm grateful to my sister for sending me some silk liner gloves and socks! Those will be a lovely gift for the months to come!

First morning in Lakeside today!
Walked over to Glacier Perks for coffee and a MASSIVE cinnamon roll! Then returned to the motel to make an actual breakfast: spinach, onion, and mushroom omelet  :P

Some clear signs of winter on the approach at basecamp before this brief expedition!

Also made some fishy friends along the trip :) 🐟

Though this isn't technically boot camp related material I feel it's important to see that there are great opportunities in our down time to have little adventures and getting out and about is great for the soul! 🤗

Speaking of, I got myself some great winter work boots as well thanks to REI co-op!

Well I've verified that I am capable of working an excavator. And I think I do pretty well with it too!

I can also apparently maul firewood like a champ

This week I worked with Fred on installing a Pitless adapter on the well casing as we near the end of the water on the Labs project allowing water feeds throughout the plots out there.

Then worked on adding organic material to help retain the water that falls on the garden beds at Fred's plot.

We spread out dried leaves first and layered 2-3inches of wood chips on top.

Although, first we hand tilled to add organic matter to the layer of sand below the surface that seems to quickly drain any water that reaches that far.

Well it's been a SOLID start this week!

We got some work done on the Solarium!

Grey felled a serious tree!

And Judy got stuck in the mud! (No worries.... She's out now)

Man thats awesome :) Im currently living in Florida and its like summer here in Winter ! Just moved here, and coming out to WL in jan. Will you still be there ?
I was in a black metal band and Heavy metal band before that in the late 90s, early 2000s, we will have lots to talk about :)

Wez, that's awesome! And yeah I'm sure the temperature has changed maybe 5 degrees since I left haha

I do plan to be here in January. Might be running video for the Garden Master event! Definitely look forward to meeting you .
