Anyone from S Central Alaska?

Just wondering if there's anyone from the Anchorage bowl or Kenai Peninsula areas out there.

Just across Cook Inlet west of Beluga mountain. Where you from?

Presently in Anchorage. I lived on the Kenai from 2001-2009 but my day job dried up and I moved up here. I have 30 paid-off acres between Kenai and Nikiski that we are clearing to be able to farm. We expect to move there in a couple years when we can go off grid and get free, pretty much, of the distribution system.

What are you growing/ building/ hunting/ making?

We are looking to buy land on/near the Kenai Peninsula within the year :]

Hi All, This summer we moved out to our property north of willow, the house site is 1.3 miles off the highway and took about three summers to build a road I could drive an RV on lol roads are alot of work, anyway here in a week or so I will be moving the chicken coop out and am building an enclosure for two little yaks we bought from Circle F Ranch in Kenny Lake. we are also in the process of planting 38,000 Rhodiola seedlings. The farm should be certified organic within a year or so. The house we are building will be earth bermed with a living roof, we are totally off grid. Because there does not seem to be a lot of info regarding proven permiculture and sustainable agriculture techniques for Alaska I will be testing as many of the different approaches as I can and will post here as things progress

Is that a john deere backhoe ? Maybe a 510? If so, Have you found any good info on operation and maintenance of them? I just got one from my brother.

It is a John Deere 510 it is a beast of a backhoe it came with all the manuals when I bought it, I don't know a whole lot about it but I can tell you if it starts making funny noises then something is about to brake lol. Its a good machine and so far has been very reliable.

Good to know, I am looking forward to putting mine to work this fall!

I live in Moose Pass on the Kenai Peninsula. Been here 12 years, 2 acres so far. 13 yrs in Fairbanks/North Pole before that, 33 years in Alaska so far. Been digging in the dirt my whole life, learned at my mother's knee in Oregon. Newbie at the permaculture thing, been reading and researching for around a year and a half.
