Searched threads before posting - no luck - sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere.
Zone 3b/4, N Wisconsin, clay soil, long days, kinda windy, reliable rain/can irrigate, 85 days or less, smallish patch for my first try.

Probably can amend the clay a little bit this first garden year. Depending on my timing and workload, I may start seeds in toilet-paper tubes to transplant, since I know they have a long taproot.
Reliable OP is sorta preferred for the "long-run" - no corn nearby. But, mostly, I LOVE sweet corn and want to have some in my first WI garden!

Very grateful for any advice on varieties and/or cultivation practices.  Best regards, MBA

not sure if you are looking at hybrids or not, but I grow in heavy clay (a bit warmer than you are, but the site says zone 3-9) and of the 3 varieties I planted this one did the best this year (someone gave me the seeds, so I had no idea what to expect). I also grew small quantities, maybe 20 plants of each. They did tend to fall in wind, so you might want to think about support.

I don't have much experience with corn. I'm in zone 3b/4a but I wonder if Canadian and US zones are similar?
Last avg. frost on May 19, first avg. frost September 26. Vegetable gardens are usually planted on the 15th of June.
Wet and cold Springs, dry short Summers, cool and wet Falls.

I chose Ashworth's Rat Selected from Hope Seeds. It's said to be 65-75 days.

I removed the top soil, loosened with my broadfork and added maybe 3 inches of marine compost. I was running out so that was thinner than planned.
I sowed on June 22, saw sprouts on the 27th (five days) and harvested on September 10 so 80 days if I'm not mistaken.

Cobs were small but very good!
