Please help tree identification : purple beech

Hello all

I have a big tree in my yard and need help identifying it. It has redish to dark purple leaves and strange fuzzy pods that have two seeds come out. All its leaves fall off in late fall/winter. Really love this tree and hope I can find out what it is. Thank you.

That's a purple beech.  Fagus sylvatica.  there are little nuts inside those seeds that are edible.  The very new leaves when they first come out in the spring are edible also!
