Most Permaculture DVDs seem to come from Australia or Europe. Americans who want to purchase copies have to pay shipping fees that make it prohibitive to order only one or two DVDs at a time and furthermore most of these DVDs are encoded for other regions so they must be viewed using a computer or a region-free DVD player.

Have Geoff Lawton, Sepp Holzer, or any of the other producers of these DVDs ever considered licensing their content to an American distributor? That way the distributor could create new copies with DVDs specified for North America with ISBNs. The other benefit to having an official American production is that it would greatly simplify the process for libraries adding Permaculture DVDs to their collections and make them available on Amazon.com so that Paul and/or Permies could have affiliate links.

Thanks for reading!

After hearing the Geoff Lawton podcast I went on their website and ordered the Urban Permaculture DVD. It cost U.S. $44.50 with shipping & handling and as of 4 days later hasn't arrived yet.

I can hope that the DVD will arrive in the next week, but after hearing the podcast I don't really think that the wait or price is too high.

I believe in the message and as one of the most visible proponents of Permaculture, the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia earns my thumbs up and support.

Maybe the amount of time I have to wait for a DVD could be better, but i'm fairly patient, and as long as it gets here i don't mind.

I guess I'm lucky in the fact that I only use PCs for my media viewing, so the encoding has never bothered me.

Space seems cool in the movies, but once you get out there, it is super boring. Now for a fascinating tiny ad:
