The last day of Linotype Operation at NY times 1978

Short Documentary about the last day of Linotype at the NY Times. I knew generally what a Linotype was, but I had no idea that for every single line of text in the NY times, they cast a custom lead die for the print layout. The entire machine was a mechanical lead casting system that had hardly changed in 100 years. This is from the last day of Linotype operations, before they were replaced by electrostatic printing from computers/word processing.

Technology marches on and we loose a bit of history in the making and it goes into the museums.
Today only artist use the linotype presses or tourist trap vendors making up fake waned posters and such.

If you pick up an old, old paper, there is a certain texture to the pages that was lost that day.
Now it is getting harder to find printed on paper new papers, everyone want to read it on their phone or other variety of computer.
