I'm wondering if I get a bag a raw apricot kernels like the ones at the link below if they will grow. Has anyone tried this?
I know they it's anyone's guess what they would taste like but I'm willing to roll the dice. 🙂
These are marketed to be eaten, but it says raw so it seems like a decent chance they will germinate. I may have to try it out of curiosity unless anyone has had a catastrophic failure!
The owner of an organic heath food store shared a dirty industry secret about "raw almonds", and that is that they have actually been pasteurized prior to packaging. I wonder if apricot kernels are treated in a similar fashion?
I think, but am not sure, that I had better luck with apricot seeds that I planted fresh, not seeds that dried for several weeks or the winter before planting.

Joseph, that's a good point. I have had decent luck with growing grocery store beans, sunflower seeds, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, peanuts, etc as long as they were raw, but maybe they don't pasteurize any of those.
Rebecca, I think it would probably be better fresh too, but seeds can be pretty amazing!
I think I am 20 bucks of curious. I will give it shot and let you all know how it goes!
They came in the mail. I'm going to let them soak for about a day. So far it looks like most are high density, although part are floating which some folks say means they won't germinate. There's some tips nicked but I could have gotten them out any better.
I'm planning to do part outside and part in the fridge. I'll post again in a few months to tell if I have any luck with this method, or if I learned one way not to grow an apricot tree! 😆
