Prairie Homestead cooking for the single man.

I have never been one to use cookbooks much, so consequently, all of my food seems to come out tasting the same. Also, I have limited cold storage space or dealing with leftovers. What suggestions would Jill's book have to help me enjoy cooking more? I especially worry about buying too much produce and then seeing it go to waste in the back of my fridge. Any ideas for how to make sure I use what I buy?

I don't have a garden set up yet. It's my first winter here, and I am still working on how to keep warm and how to improve my solar power set-up.

Hey Mark!

I may be slightly biased, but I think you'd really enjoy the book. I keep it simple-- and the ingredients are basic and whole-food, but I spent a lot of time making sure the spice/herb/salt amounts are just right, so you can count on differing flavors within the recipes for sure.

I also have a recipe in the book called "Old Homestead Pie" which is my secret weapon for using up leftovers!

I LOVE pies! I never learned how to make the crusts. Unfortunately, I also do not have an oven.

I am working on getting a second RV/trailer that has a working kitchen with a real hot water heater & a working oven.

Do you have a list of go-to spices, and when to use them?
