Is it possible to sterilize either peat pucks or seed starting soil? I would hate to sterilize my trays and end up with damping off and loose any of my seedlings. There are quite a few pucks that died off last year for various reasons, not necessarily damping off but cats, falls, books etc. Yeah I need a more secure seed starting area, but I try to make do with what I have. Any suggestions for reusing these materials or just chuck them in the compost?

If you have a pressure cooker (not one of the electric ones but an "old fashioned" type that sits on a burner to gather heat) you can sterilize either pucks or soil. You want 15 lbs. pressure for 15 to 30 minutes for complete sterilization.
Trays need to be soaked in bleach then washed and triple rinsed.
