Fall is the best time to plant strawberries here. Fall planting requires a lot less weeding and gets the plants established before our summer drought.I do use more plants in the fall. Unfortunately, most places don’t have the day neutral varieties that I like.  I bought 50 from Ebay. The roots had been pruned too short. The weather was unusually hot and dry. I had a rabbit that seemed to only eat new strawberry leaves. Only about six plants survived. The other plants are rotten roots now. Im sure that they didn’t die from a disease, but will they have a disease now that they are rotten? I would like to replant the strawberries in the same spot with the few survivors. Is this a bad idea because of diseases? Except for possible diseases this is the best location I have available now

I think you will be fine replanting there, you have a good idea why the original plants died, and the rot on the roots will just be them naturally decomposing and probably isn't going to be anything that will bother a living plant.

Thanks! I ordered some Seascape from Nourse Farms. I don’t think I’ve planted them before. They sound good. I couldn't remember if I’d ordered from Nourse before, so I checked their reviews out on Daves Garden. Best reviews I’ve ever seen.
