There are lots of conflicting thought and information about companion planting. I enjoy looking at the charts and deciding what I will plant with what. I have my favorite charts printed and in my garden book, and every year I add to it. That being said I think it's important not to take it too seriously. An example is most charts tell you tomatoes and potatoes are bad companions. From what I understand this is because they both attract the same destructive insects. Odds are if your soil is very healthy and you plant other flowers and veggies with them, you will be fine planting them together. Companion planting is really more about planting a diverse crop then what goes with what.
As far as the challenge the only thing I've got is I was given the book 'Carrots Love Tomatoes', and always remember. (and you usually find some carrots around my tomatoes)
