I am pretty sure this is Yellow Reishi after (Ganoderma curtisii), but want to make sure before harvesting any. I know there are relatively few known toxic polypores and the ones that are toxic are distinguishable and nothing like Ganoderma so chances are very good that I’d be fine even if it was misidentified. Nevertheless, I don’t want to be stupid although there is a point when you just got to go ahead. I mean it’s not like there’s a similar poisonous variety making it a high risk choice.

Hi Matthias and welcome to permies!

I had a similar mushroom in our front yard last fall that was growing on pine stumps rather than hardwood and was described as a subspecies of the yellow reishi. https://permies.com/t/130945/mushrooms-mosses-lichens-ID-hikes#1027024 and was able to get a more positive ID from a facebook group....and then further ID here https://mushroomobserver.org/name/show_name/63790 that I posted links to here, https://permies.com/t/130945/mushrooms-mosses-lichens-ID-hikes#1028478

You've probably run across this video? It sure looks like yours!

Was yours growing on hardwood?

I was very excited to find something this special growing so close.  My understanding is that they will keep coming back until the wood is used up and I see some young ones already.
