HI everyone. My very first post and not sure if I'm even posting it in the right place. I have some grafting questions. I'm grafting some citrus trees and peach and also pomegranates. I'm really confused about needing to cover my grafts with plastic bags or other different ways. I haven't used any wax on most of my grafts. I have simply used plastic grafting tape to wrap them tightly. the exposed pieces I have covered with loose surround wrap taping their bottom so they stay in place. I have used some clear medical tape to gently wrap around some other exposed ends and some I have just left alone fully exposed to air. what am I doing right or wrong? I recently bought this really hard grafting wax and did use it over some junctures before wrapping them. should I have also put some of that wax over the exposed buds to prevent them from drying out rather than just putting a clear plastic bag over them? any general tips?
if you’re using plastic or paraffin grafting tape and there’s some concern about the scion drying out before the graft starts growing out, what i frequently do is encasing the scion completely in the tape before doing the graft. the new growth can always just push through the tape if it’s not a crazy number of layers. clear plastic bags with air inside can cook the scion if it gets much sun before it gets a chance to grow.
