This is out in my yard. My soil out here is mostly clay, and it is in NE Alabama. These plants grow in little colonies around my yard and I had never noticed them before.
They are right down there on the ground and the flower us about the size of my pinky nail.

I'd say sea holly looks WAY too big, the pictures posted show her hand by it for scale, sea holly is much larger flowers. Wonder if there's a miniature version of it?
This is an old thread I hit when the new flower forum was being made, I like the idea of all the old pictures having been identified. I doubt the Original Poster even remembers posting this :)

Each photo is coming up with another type of flower. Blue thimble to wild blue berry, clearly not 100% reliable.
